Mircea Tiberian is one of the characters with the most complex and spectacular evolution in Romanian jazz music of the last decades. His musical activity has materialized in thousands of concerts and over twenty albums made under his own name; the most recent appeared in 2019 on Fiver House records under the title “Looking forward to the past“.
The main features of his improvisational and compositional art would be: a complex harmonic language, inspired melodic lines both in composition and in improvisations, a sonorous and stylistic palette that goes from gospel and rock &roll to sound explorings and classic contemporary music, an inclination towards unexpected solutions, hence the originality of his music.
Mircea Tiberian has, at the same time, an essential role in the pedagogy of jazz and improvised music in Romania, being the initiator of the first and most important jazz and pop music department in the country, a section he has been leading for over three decades.
Tiberian is active also in the literary, musicological and artistic interference field, publishing numerous articles, books or anthologies and being the author of several shows that include, along with music, poetry, theater or film.
